Have you always wanted a tattoo but your parents said no? Or maybe, like me, you are scared of something permanently drawn on you FOREVER?! Come to the Activity Center at 3 pm on Saturday, where Renuka Bhatt will demonstrate the tools of Mehndi and attendees can get their own henna tattoo! (They last a couple weeks before wearing off naturally! :))

It’s NaNoWriMo!

Calling all writers! November is here, and that means it’s National Novel Writing Month! Visit the web site to create an account (if you’re over 13), or if you’re under 13, be sure to check out their Young Writers Program, where you can find tips for writing block and a section called “Stump the Librarian” (hmm, I’m not sure how I feel about that!).

Can you write a whole novel in one month? It sure helps if others are trying right along with you!

National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.

…Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that’s a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.

If you’re participation in NaNoWriMo this year, leave a comment and tell us how it’s going!

Today’s joke, in honor of LOL @ Your Library and Teen Read Week, goes like this:

Q: What do you call cheese that doesn’t belong to you?

A: NACHO CHEESE!!

…sorry, I never said it wasn’t “cheesy.” Leave a comment with your favorite joke!

Sand Beasts.

This video will blow your mind. It’s one of those see-it-to-believe it kind of things. Artist/engineer Theo Jansen makes his “sand beasts” out of plastic pipe and things he finds on the beach. They move on their own using wind power: science fiction in real life. This ain’t your father’s tinker toys!

Read more about Theo Jansen from NPR and Wired.

This made me laugh…and you will, too, if you’ve ever used those short pencils in the library.

“I’ll never take short pencils for granted again!” LOL!

Where in Westerville, #5

Where in Westerville was this photo taken?

(Answer from Sept. 14: This is a picture from a house at the corner of Vine St. and Old County Line Road, across from Old Towne Park. Meo, Luke, Jenna, and him all guessed it! If you haven’t taken a look, go by and check out all the random blue stuff in the yard!!)

12-yr-old gets $6.5M for gaming company

All you money-minded folks out there, check out this post from Slashdot. A company co-founded by a 12-year-old has just raised a LOT of money.

Arjun Mehta, a 6th grader, says on his Web site that he is passionate about software that can make the game experience more “rewarding,” and that he started the company last year in his garage.

This really inspires me to say something cheesy like “follow your dreams and you never know what may happen” — but really, the proof is there, right? If you just made six million bucks, you probably don’t care about cheesy!

Thanks to Victor for the link! :)
